Set upon a windswept knoll above Lake Keowee’s Emerald Bay, this slender 3,800 square foot home features dramatic views of its pristine mountain and lake surroundings. A modest building program, coupled with dramatic directional views, yielded a unique linear plan and a simple Carolina Mountain expression of traditional Shingle Style architecture. The home offers a dramatic sequence of spatial experiences which begin upon arrival with a stone and wooden bridge leading to an understated entry protected by the generous overhang of the roof. Upon passage through the entrance, the space opens into a warm and inviting Great Room, anchored on one end by a massive stone fireplace that features panoramic views across the bay. The Great Room, as the heart of the home, is interwoven into the surrounding spaces – creating a spatial connectivity that gives a sense that the whole home is considerably larger than the statistical sum of its parts.
