The Charleston Housing Authority (CHA) received $3.2M funding from a Public Housing Capital Fund Recovery Competitive grant program in October of 2009. The grant was awarded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) using Recovery Act funds based on the housing authority’s commitment to the green development criteria. HUD amended the Green Communities Criteria from Enterprise and the housing authority determined that it was able to meet all mandatory criteria as well as all but one of the HUD-amended voluntary criteria. The HACC also plans to certify the buildings under the LEED® for Homes Program and plans to achieve a Platinum Rating for the existing and new construction.
The Reid Street project contains an existing apartment building with four units which was constructed in 1980 and includes two new apartment buildings located adjacent to the existing structure. The new buildings contain four two-bedroom units each for a total of 12 units.
