As a part of Genesis Homes effort to serve a broader geographic area in the Upstate of South Carolina, the nonprofit has partnered with the city of Laurens, SC to begin to address the need for quality affordable workforce housing in the city. Genesis Homes began acquiring scattered sites in the Laurens Mill Village in 2009 and subsequently enlisted LS3P | Neal Prince to assist them in developing prototypes which would fit seamlessly into the historic mill village context. Neal Prince Studio designed two prototype single family dwellings to populate six lots which capture the village’s unique architectural style and address contemporary living requirements.
In March of 2011, Laurens City Council praised the designs for their quality and for capturing the unique character of the community. Construction of the dwellings is currently pending contingent upon the award of 2011 HOME funds.
