Neal Prince Studio is assisting Homes of Hope in its partnership with the City of Spartanburg to develop affordable housing suitable for use in the city’s historic downtown neighborhoods. By the middle of the twentieth century, these once thriving neighborhoods had fallen into rapid decline. During that time many structures were lost through neglect and demolition leaving the streetscapes saw-toothed with vacant lots. Today the neighborhoods are beginning to recover.
Neal Prince Studio met the architectural challenge of designing the prototypes that capture the spirit of the refined geometry and detail of the remaining neighborhood dwellings by utilizing a thorough and thoughtful design process. The architects conducted a photographic survey of dwellings within a half mile radius of the center of the neighborhood and have translated their findings into a budget conscious new design that appears to have always been a part of the neighborhood.
