Over the years, First Baptist Church of Greenville has partnered with a number of neighborhoods in the Greenville area. The current partnership with the Haynie-Sirrine Neighborhood (located off Cleveland Street near the church and adjacent to Greenville’s thriving historic West End) offers a variety of programs, through which the Church seeks to provide outreach ministry for the benefit of Haynie-Sirrine residents.
A central component of the City of Greenville’s 2002 Master Plan for the neighborhood is the preservation of affordable housing in the area. In partial fulfillment of that goal, First Baptist Church’s Neighborhood Partnership Committee acquired property on Chicora Street with the vision of securing an island of affordable housing for neighborhood senior citizens. Neal Prince Studio was selected to design a two-bedroom duplex prototype. The design goal is to provide comfortable modern housing that recognizes the character and architectural features of the neighborhood.
